Six Flags St. Louis Makes Chaperone Policy After Opening Weekend Fights

Six Flags St. Louis has announced the immediate reactivation of a comprehensive chaperone policy following a series of disruptive fights that marred the park’s 2026 opening weekend. The new rules, which take effect daily starting Saturday, May 2, 2026, require adult supervision for younger guests in an effort to restore a safe, family-friendly environment and prevent further incidents of violence.

On Saturday, April 25 (or 26, depending on reports), the park’s opening day was cut short after a “teen takeover” allegedly organized on social media escalated into large-scale fights. Local authorities reported that roughly 100 young people—mostly juveniles—were involved in brawls that began in the parking lot and spilled into the park. Police responded quickly to disperse the crowd, but park officials ultimately decided to close early for safety reasons.
Park representatives stated that the chaperone requirement is a direct response to these events. A spokeswoman for the park explained: “We believe requiring a chaperone to be with guests 16 years of age and younger will impact behavior in a positive way and greatly reduce the inclination and ability to be disruptive to park operation and other guests.”
This is not entirely new—Six Flags St. Louis had a similar policy in place last year, but it was only enforced after 4 p.m. The 2026 version is stricter and applies all day, every day the park is open.

Six Flags posted this on social media: To help ensure our guests have a fun, safe experience at the park, a Chaperone Policy will be reactivated effective daily starting May 2, 2026. Please note that some requirements have changed.

As a reminder, full or partial face coverings or anything that can be worn as a face covering, are not permitted in the park. Including, but not limited to, hoods w/front zippers, ski masks, balaclavas (Shiesty masks), and neck gaiters.

Age requirement: All guests 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old. Chaperone ratio: One adult may supervise a maximum of six guests aged 16 or younger. Identification: Chaperones must present a valid government-issued photo ID (with date of birth) at entry. Guests 17 and older should also be prepared to show ID to verify their age. Supervision rules: The chaperone must accompany the group through the entrance and remain inside the park for the entire visit. They must stay available by phone and be ready to respond in person if park staff requests assistance. Chaperones do not need to ride the same attractions but must remain on-site and reachable. Consequences: Any guest 16 or younger found inside the park without a qualifying chaperone will be subject to immediate ejection.

The policy aligns with similar enhanced chaperone rules recently rolled out or strengthened at other Six Flags parks (such as Over Texas, Great America, and Fiesta Texas) in response to rising incidents of unruly behavior across the amusement industry.

Amusement parks nationwide have faced growing challenges with large groups of unsupervised teens using social media to coordinate “takeovers,” leading to fights, line-cutting, and other disruptions. By mandating responsible adult oversight, Six Flags St. Louis aims to deter such behavior before it starts. The park emphasized that the goal is not to exclude families but to ensure everyone—young visitors included—can enjoy the rides and attractions in a safe setting.

Park officials acted quickly after the opening-weekend chaos, announcing the policy change within days to reassure guests and prevent a repeat during the busy upcoming season.
