I Released A Comedy Special on Meta Quest VR

When I was in Austin late last year I met two artists who work for Soap Box: Dream Beard, who makes metal music, and Cameron, who produces a bunch of different bands and projects. In the parking lot of a bar we were drinking at, they showed me a VR video of Teddy Swims performing. The headset made it look like he was playing right there in front of me. They also told me Uncle Lazer, who we were hanging out with, had just recorded a comedy set, and they showed me that too. It was really cool technology.

They stayed in touch and brought me down to Atlanta early this year to record a comedy special on their Soap Box app for Meta Quest VR. I flew in, dropped by their studio (they’ve since moved to Los Angeles), hung out and checked the place out the first night. The second night they threw a party and had a bunch of people over to watch the comedy set in the studio. They showed me the technology they were going to use to turn my set into a virtual reality comedy special.

I went into a green screen room. People slowly came in and hid behind large green blockers so they’d match the screen. It felt a lot like how a band records. Cam was in the producer window recording and letting me know when to go.
